Commentator Shimrit Meir responded to the death of Saeb Erekat.
"Erekat's death symbolizes the decline of the Oslo era in Palestinian history: the authority that was supposed to be a state on the way became a super-municipality of the West Bank, a mechanism for jobs and the maintenance of elites. There is no national vision and the strategy essentially is to wait and hope for the best. A generation is going but it is not clear which generation is coming."
