Speaking to Galei Tzahal this morning, Higher Education Minister Zeev Elkin (Likud) expressed his disgust at the fact that a Knesset member had been placed under criminal investigation. He was referring to MK Miki Zohar, of whom Israel Police said yesterday that he was suspected of "extortion by threats" against the Attorney-General.

"Zohar has already apologized for certain statements he made regarding the Attorney-General, and there is no justification for threatening him regardless of whether or not there is reason to suspect certain things - which is why he apologized," Elkin said. "But to take a Knesset member and interrogate him on a criminal charge? Such a thing has never happened before in the history of the State of Israel."
