A security consulting firm tweeted that a hostage situation may be ongoing following the shooting in Vienna.
"Austria Update: At least 7 killed in an attack near a synagogue in Vienna. One assailant reportedly blew himself up with an explosive belt; Another shooting reported at the Hilton hotel; Possible hostage situation underway," it posted.
