Welfare Minister Itzik Shmuli (Labor) has expressed his opposition to the imposition of a nationwide lockdown, suggesting that it won't be effective and that many of the country's citizens will refuse to abide by it.
"We have to impose restrictions, but we must not bring the country to a halt," Shmuli said. "Until now, attempts to impose differential restrictions had no chance of success, but maybe now they will, if we act aggressively to enforce the law in places that are contagion hot-spots."
