Knesset Speaker Yariv Levin, speaking at a conference of the Bar Association, said that he does not support the current push by Yamina MKs to pass the Override Clause, that would allow the Knesset to overrule Supreme Court rulings in certain cases.
"I'm not impressed with this legislation being put forward by Yamina," he said. "When they held the Justice portfolio, they didn't submit this proposal. They didn't even try to get us on board. In my opinion, the main thrust of the Override Clause is mistaken, and I oppose it. An Override Clause needs to be far more wide-reaching - it needs to be part of a larger change in legislation, not something so focused like this."
Levin added that, "I don't think that in the present Knesset, given the present composition of the coalition, there is a chance of passing this law. I regret this very much, as I believe the Supreme Court recognizes this, and is therefore becoming even more extreme in its absurd rulings. Nonetheless, their rulings make the eventual passage of some kind of Override Clause more likely, I believe."
