The World Organization of Orthodox Synagogues, which took part in discussions designed to formulate a plan to permit the functioning of synagogues for the coming months, has welcomed the Israeli government's new outline for prayers during the High Holidays, noting that it takes into account the differences in rates of infection between one town and the next.
The Organization also stressed the importance of maintaining a distance of two meters between people while praying, even in open areas, and suggested that it would be advisable to arrange for prayers to be held on the streets in addition to in synagogue buildings and other open areas, in order to accommodate the expected crowds and for the benefit of those in high-risk groups who wish to pray with a quorum but fear extended exposure to others at close quarters even in open areas.
