Responding to the resignation of the Treasury's budget commissioner, Shaul Meridor, Defense Minister Benny Gantz stated:
"Shaul Meridor is a dedicated and experienced professional who has contributed greatly to the Israeli economy. He held his position during a complex economic period and his departure is unfortunate."
Echoing his sentiments, President Rivlin stated:
"I very much regret the resignation of Shaul Meridor ... the difficult step he has taken, and its implications, are of great concern... Israel needs a professional and strong bureaucracy in order to work with the legislative in order to extricate the country from this difficult crisis in which the entire world finds itself."
Meanwhile, opposition MKs have been unanimous in their assertion that the resignation represents an admission of government failure by one appointed to execute its policies, with MK Moshe Yaalon stating that it is "further evidence of Netanyahu's failure to govern. Never before has there been such a detached, failed and dangerous government in Israel."
