A high-ranking former official of the Mosad David Meidan has said that "contacts with the UAE began in 2005 and were given a boost by Prime Minister Arik Sharon in 2006."

Meidan forecasts that more countries will follow in the UAE's footsteps.

"Bahrain can do this as well as Oman, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, all countries that are considered more 'western.' In any case, they will still need time to adopt the signficant changes required before establishing relations with Israel," Meidan added.
