The Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, has made his second visit to a Tokyo hospital in a week, The Telegraph reports, giving rise to concerns over the state of his health.

Abe has just marked his 2,799th consecutive day in office, setting a record in Japan (one previously set by his own great-uncle, almost 50 years ago).

“Today I learned more about last week's test, and I've taken an additional test,” he told reporters. “While seeing to my health, I would like to do my best in my work. Politics is not about how many days one has stayed in office, but what one has accomplished," he added. "I have fully devoted myself every day to realising the pledges I have made to the people.”
