Thousands of Israelis observed a brief, symbolic strike earlier this afternoon, to protest the prevalence of sexual violence against women in Israel, AFP reports.
The strike lasted for an hour, and was organized by women's group "Building an Alternative," which announced that its aim was to "protest growing violence against women and girls in Israel, and lack of sufficient punishment."
One organizer told AFP that at least 30 companies and organizations, including city halls and Israel's branches of Microsoft, participated, adding that additional demonstrations are planned for this evening, with a main event to be held in Tel Aviv.
