While the UK's Chief Medical Officer has cautioned that a vaccine for coronavirus is unlikely to be ready before the coming winter, and is only "likely" to be ready by the following year, Russia is planning to manufacture up to two million doses of its home-grown vaccine every month by the end of 2020, The Guardian reports.

Russia's Industry Minister, Denis Manturov, told reporters today that the country hopes to eventually produce six million doses a month.

However, experts from several countries have expressed their concern over the efficacy and safety of the Russian vaccine, which has not been made available for international scrutiny, with some even warning that a bad vaccine could exacerbate the situation and be worse than no vaccine at all.

Russia has dismissed concerns, and plans to commence mass testing next week.
