UK Schools Minister Nick Gibb has admitted that he was warned weeks ago about the possible negative consequences of using an algorithm to moderate teacher assessments and allocate final grades for nationwide tests, The Guardian reports.

Students received the results of their A-levels, taken at age 17-18, last week, and up to 40% had their results, predicted by their teachers based on previous work, downgraded, leading to many losing their places in university.

Now the government has announced that it will revert to solely using teacher assessments, after widespread protests in the wake of what even the ruling Conservative party called a fiasco.
