The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported 54,686 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, The Guardian reports, for a total of 5,340,232 confirmed cases since the outbreak of the pandemic.
1,150 people died in the same period of coronavirus-related complications, for a total death toll of 168,696 people.
