The UK government has reported 1,040 new diagnoses of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, The Guardian reports, with five people dying in the same period.
To date, 318,484 cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in the United Kingdom, and 41,366 people have died within 28 days of testing positive for the virus (the government's criterion for a coronavirus-related death).
