New research suggests that a large portion of the world's population - between 20% and 50% - have immune system cells that recognize the virus and are able to fight it off, even though they have never encountered it.
According to a Channel 12 News report, T cells that were part of the human blood system long before the plague arrived, are capable of guarding people from the virus.
