According to the Yisrael Hayom newspaper, Defense Minister Benny Gantz has told the IDF to prepare a response targeting Lebanese infrastructure, in the event that Hezbollah harms soldiers or Israeli citizens.
A senior defense official told the newspaper that the order was given during a closed discussion that took place yesterday between Gantz, IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi, and other IDF top brass. At the discussion, Kochavi presented the IDF's position on the issue, which focuses on ensuring that Hezbollah bears responsibility for any Israeli response and its consequences, in addition to the Lebanese government itself.
What emerged from the meeting was that any Israeli response to a Hezbollah attack that seems to be expected by the IDF will focus not only on Hezbollah fighters and bases but also on Lebanese infrastructure.
