Spanish authorities conducting a routine inspection of a frozen seafood shop discovered ancient Roman artefacts dating back to the first century on the store's premises, the BBC reports.

Thirteen amphoras, jars used to transport oil, wine, or garum, the famous Roman fish sauce, were found, one of which is thought to be especially valuable.

The store owner's son claimed that he found the jars while fishing, but the Spanish Civil Guard suspects that they were looted from shipwrecks, in which case the thieves could face criminal charges. The owner of the store and his son are being questioned.
