An Afghan girl has shot and killed three Taliban fighters, The Guardian reports, after they killed her parents in the family's home in the village of Geriveh.

"The insurgents came to their doorstep and her mother went to see who was knocking," said Mohamed Aref Aber, a spokesman for the provincial governor. "When she saw that they were armed, she refused to open the door."

The mother was shot dead, and the terrorists then entered the family's home and shot the father dead as well.

The sixteen-year-old daughter witnessed the slaughter of her parents, and grabbed her father's rifle and shot and killed three of the terrorists, holding off the gang for an hour, together with her twelve-year-old brother.

Eventually, the gang was forced to retreat from the village after neighbors joined the fight. Afghan officials then took the girl and her younger brother to a safe place in the provincial capital.
