Hagit Moshe, deputy mayor of Jerusalem, has appealed to Internal Security Minister Amir Ohana, asking him to order police to clamp down on violent left-wing protesters who damage property as well as disturb the peace of Jerusalem residents living in the vicinity of the Prime Minister's residence.
"Last week, police allowed a protest to take place, in which anarchists took part," the deputy mayor wrote. "During the protest, these anarchists caused damage to property belonging to local residents and business owners, and created a huge public disturbance.
"A large number of residents have turned to me, saying that they fear for their safety when leaving their homes. In addition, such protests constitute incitement to anarchy as well as a threat to the safety of the prime minister. It beggars belief that the police are letting such demonstrations go ahead."
Hagit Moshe added that, "During these demonstrations, protesters do not observe government regulations designed to curb the spread of the coronavirus, and this is likely to have a harmful impact on the protesters themselves as well as on local residents. As deputy mayor, I am requesting that you order the police to clamp down on these anarchists, and ban all such demonstrations."
