    Global virus cases jump by over 1.5 million in last week alone

    In the last week alone, global coronavirus cases have jumped by over 1.5 million, according to figures provided by John Hopkins University. 582,743 people have died so far in the pandemic; the total number of infected now stands at 13,504,553.

    The country with the largest number of confirmed cases remains the United States, with 3,495,537 cases, followed by: Brazil: 1,966,748; India: 936,181; Russia: 745,197; Peru: 337,751; Chile: 321,205; Mexico: 311,486; South Africa: 311,049; United Kingdom: 293,469; Iran: 264,561.
