Coronavirus cases in Mexico are still soaring, with 539 deaths in the last day for a total of 34,730 since the outbreak of the epidemic, The Guardian reports.
This is the fourth-highest death toll in the world, and Mexican officials admit that the true number of dead is likely much higher, as many victims never undergo coronavirus testing.
Mexico has 293,268 confirmed virus cases, and here again the numbers are probably a gross underestimate.
All the same, Hugo Lopez-Gatell, Mexico’s deputy health minister and coronavirus czar, this week said the virus was “slowing down.”
