Housing & Construction Minister and head of the United Torah Judaism party Yakov Litzman is currently meeting with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu at his private office.
Litzman had asked to meet with the prime minister urgenty in light of the decision of the Knesset's coronavirus committee to impose what appear to be discriminatory lockdowns on haredi neighborhoods, where entrance and exit is strictly limited. There has been an avalanche of complaints from individuals in the haredi community of harsh policing, with many encounters documented and circulated on social media.
In addition, a haredi demonstration against lockdown restrictions last night was clamped down on with violence by police - at the same time as a similar demonstration - in secular Tel Aviv - was allowed to proceed relatively undisturbed. Police brutality against members of the haredi community has been widely documented in recent weeks.
