A 27-year-old black man has been charged with three felonies including vehicular homicide, after killing one pedestrian and seriously injuring another one, the NY Post reports.
Dawit Kelete was reportedly driving at "highway speeds" when he hit the two women. His lawyer claims it was a "horrible accident," and that Kelete is "very remorseful."
A nearby security camera captured his car, a Jaguar, heading the wrong way up the Stewart Street I-5 exit ramp, past several warning signs that read “Wrong Way,” according to the charge sheet.
After hitting the two women, he was surrounded by angry protesters (from a Black Lives Matter protest) and, probably panicking, fled the scene.
