The statue of anti-slavery writer and political activist Frederick Douglas was found ripped out of its base in Rochester, NY, on the anniversary of his famous "What to the slave is the Fourth of July?" speech in 1852.
According to sources, the statue was removed from Maplewood Park and left at a nearby river gorge.
Rochester police are investigating the incident. No arrests have been made.
