US President Donald Trump has asserted numerous times that the United States only has the highest number of coronavirus cases in the world because it is conducting the most tests, but the facts don't bear him out.

A chart published by the Independent (from OurWorldInData) shows that Bahrain holds the record for the number of tests being conducted per thousand residents - 276 people.

Most countries are a long way behind, and Russia is one of the top of the next tier, at 116 tests per thousand.

Singapore is managing 98 per 1,000; Israel 88 per 1,000, and the United States only 80 tests per thousand.

The United Kingdom is even lower down at just 63 tests per thousand citizens.
