LA Times journalist Sonali Kohli tweeted that "The L.A. Unified school board just approved a $25 million (35%) cut to the L.A. School Police Dept."

She said [the LAPD] had reported that this would "require officers to be unarmed and would prohibit the use of pepper spray..."

In a separate string of tweets, she pointed out that, "Board member George McKenna pointed out he’s the only Black board member and said this year is the first time he’s heard some talk about their care for African American students. “If it’s about race then where have you been all this time?"

“I support the concept of rebelling against oppression, especially against police abuse” but "I don’t know how police officers infringe on a student’s ability to read, write and operate,” he said.
