In a 53-to-26 vote, the Knesset plenum now dropped Meretz MK Tamar Zandberg's bill for public transportation on Shabbat.
Zandberg said at the hearing: "Public transportation on Shabbat is a basic and essential need. It is environmentally, socially, economically right and saves human lives. It will reduce traffic jams and road accidents, it will cater to those who have less. It can't be that just because of religious coercion and hypocrisy the citizens of the country will be under curfew for a day."
