IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi and Interim Police Commissioner Motti Cohen met today to discuss the incident that occurred in Hevron on Friday night, during which an IDF soldier from the Golani Brigade intervened to prevent Jews from attacking a Palestinian-Arab man.

At the outset of their discussion, the Chief of Staff praised the conduct of the soldier in protecting the Arab. Kochavi stressed that nationalistic violence is a crime that must be prevented, and if committed, must be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Cohen added that regular and Border Police would continue to work side-by-side with IDF forces, both in the open and undercover, in order to identify criminals responsible for acts of violence.

The two emphasized the importance of mutual cooperation, and agreed that they would act with all their ability to enforce the law and maintain public order in the region.
