The Agriculture Ministry's Enforcement and Investigations Unit seized more than 400 packages of sweet potatos over the weekend, representing seven tons of sweet potatoes in the wholesale market in Tzrifin.
The sweet potatoes were smuggled out of Gaza and intended for sale in Israel. The suspect is a wholesaler in the Tzrifin market in his 60s and was detained for interrogation and legal proceedings were opened against him. At the same time, given the real danger to public health of eating unsupervised sweet potatoes, all of the sweet potatoes were destroyed.
