The Italian "orange vest" movement held several protests across Italy on Shabbat, The Guardian reports - in Milan, Bergamo, Turin, Bologna, Florence, and Rome.

Many demonstrators openly flouted social distancing rules and stated their belief that Covid-19 was a conspiracy designed to "sell us to China."

Others were demanding that Italy leave the Euro system and revert to its original Lira currency. Italy, hard-hit by the virus, was already in economic trouble before the epidemic struck, and the European Union has not expressed a willingness to bail the country out, leading to austerity laws and widespread resentment.
