New York City hopes to be performing 50,000 tests for Covid-19 by August, Mayor de Blasio said yesterday.
NBC reports that currently, the city is doing around 20,000 tests daily and has the capacity to do up to 27,000.
More than 21,300 New Yorkers have died of coronavirus, around a fifth of the country's total.
