US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced minutes ago that the US would no longer treat Hong Kong as an independent entity.
This follows days of clashes between China-backed police forces and Hong Kong anti-Communist activists.
The move opens up the door for sanctions to be imposed against the Beijing-appointed regime.
