Chief Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef, President of the Chief Rabbinate Council, contacted Attorney General Dr. Avihai Mandelblit to hold a further hearing in the High Court, following the new ruling on the petition to allow chametz (leavened bread) in hospitals during Passover.
In his appeal, the rabbi expressed his concern that beyond harming the Jewish character of the State of Israel - the introduction of chametz into hospitals during Passover would cause those who keep kosher to leave hospitals while avoiding receiving medical treatment, thereby risking their lives.
Attorney General Mandelblit responded to Rabbi Yosef's request and allowed the Chief Rabbinate to apply for a further hearing in the High Court.
