General (Res.) Gershon Cohen of the Habithonistim security movement has responded to statements made by former IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot in an interview that appears in full in today's Yisrael Hayom.

"Being a Chief of Staff, even if he excelled in his position, does not make someone an authority in determining the national and security interests of the State of Israel," Cohen said. "The position that Eizenkot takes with regard to Israel's national interests is controversial, and furthermore, is not in line with the basic Zionist position, which is that 'peace' is not the overriding goal, but rather, 'the salvation of Israel, the ingathering of the exiles, and national redemption.'"

Cohen added that, "similar criticism can be leveled against the comment made by Amos Gilad on Reshet Bet, when he said that 'annexation would be a disaster for the security of the State of Israel.'"
