Yitzhak Asefa, a soccer player for Israel Premier League’s F.C. Ashdod team who was sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison for his involvement in a hit-and-run incident, has appealed his sentence.

The incident occurred in September 2018, when Asefa, driving away from a party at which he consumed a large amount of alcohol, collided with an electric bike that is believed to have swerved into his path. Seventeen-year-old Ari Nesher was seriously injured and died of his wounds four days later.

Instead of stopping his car, Asefa continued driving and subsequently tried to get the damage to his car repaired in order to conceal the fact that he had been involved in the accident. He was convicted of abandoning the scene of an accident and obstructing the subsequent investigation.
