In an interview with the Maariv newspaper, Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Leon expressed his opinion on the future of his city.
"Let's admit the truth," he said. "Jerusalem is never going to become a secular city, and it's certainly never going to resemble Tel Aviv with its entertainment venues open on Friday night. And this reflects the wishes of the great majority of Jerusalem's residents," he added.
"Nonetheless," he continued, "there are specific entertainment venues that cater to the city's secular population. For example, Yes Planet, which is open on Shabbat. And I want to reiterate: We have to ensure that the status quo is respected, that there is mutual understanding. Once people understand each other, we can solve any problem that arises."
