Knesset Speaker Yariv Levin has opened the plenum session by noting that he is delighted to be the first Knesset Speaker to have been born in Jerusalem in the period following Israel's victory in the Six-Day War, and that he feels privileged to have grown up in Jerusalem.
"Our victory in the Six-Day War was a huge leap forward in the history of Jerusalem - in our history," he said. He then referred to the decision of the United States to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to the capital, a step that was taken two years ago. "This was another significant step, following the brave decision of President Donald Trump, and the no-less brave implementation of US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman. The recognition the Americans granted to Jerusalem as our capital city righted a long-standing wrong. I would like to take this opportunity to thank once more President Trump and Ambassador Friedman for their firm position on the side of Israel, on the side of truth," he stated.
