IDF commanders have decided to enhance the level of surveillance on the Lebanese border, in light of recent events including today's infiltration of a man who was detected and shot by IDF forces operating in the region.
A security official related that in the last month alone, three separate incidents have been reported of people attempting to cross the border fence. "We cannot allow ourselves to show weakness in this sensitive region," the official said. "One time, the border fence was cut in three separate places; another time, a Sudanese supposedly crossed the border by accident; this time, it appears to have been an innocent shepherd who paid no heed to repeated warnings and continued on his way to the border as if it wasn't there at all.
"Our assessment is that these events represent attempts on the part of hostile Lebanese elements to test our vigilance by sending supposedly innocent people to cross the border," the official concluded.
