The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Brazil is now higher than in Italy, The Guardian reports, noting that the epidemic is also sweeping through Mexico and Peru.

In Brazil, nearly 15,000 new cases were reported yesterday, for a total of more than 230,000. Only the US, Russia, and the UK have a larger number of reported cases, but officials are concerned that the true extent of the epidemic's reach in Brazil is actually far greater, as Brazil has only conducted a limited number of tests so far, a relatively small number in comparison to Spain and Italy.
