A number of officials from the Likud party have expressed their anger at the fact that MK Miri Regev will likely be appointed Transportation Minister in the incoming unity government. This morning's Yisrael Hayom newspaper quotes several officials as critical of Netanyahu's decision.
"There are quite a number of veteran politicians with a high status in the party - people like Avi Dichter, Tzachi Hanegbi, or Gila Gamliel - who haven't been promised portfolios so far," the paper quotes the officials. "And in all probability, they won't be appointed to such senior positions as Regev - so how do you understand that? She doesn't come from a legal background that would make her suited to heading the Committee for the Appointment of Justices - and on top of that, she got a portfolio as well. It looks as if she's being placated for not being appointed Minister of Internal Security as she wanted. But the Transportation portfolio is also a senior position, and in any case, it's not clear why she has to be placated at all. Probably she's just being rewarded for telling Netanyahu what he likes to hear."
