Alongside accelerating infrastructure projects and maintaining rails and railroad cars, Israel Railways took advantage of the weeks when train traffic was stopped to upgrade about 40 stations across the country, accounting for more than half of all train stations.
It is reported that these works, estimated to cost over NIS 15 million, are planned to be completed over the next few years, and were significantly accelerated in accordance with Railway General Manager Michael (Micha) Mickenser's instructions, beginning at the start of the coronavirus crisis and terminating rail service in accordance with Health Ministry guidelines.
