Representatives of the Finance Ministry report that they have concluded a meeting with officials from the El Al airline, regarding the future of the company which is in grave financial straits due to the coronavirus pandemic.
"Discussions will be continued at a later stage," a Finance Ministry official stated.
Last week, the government agreed to back huge bank loans to the two other Israeli airlines, Arkia and Israir, saving them from probable bankruptcy. However, previous overtures from El Al to the government, asking for state funding to survive the current crisis, have been rebuffed, with Finance Ministry officials stating that they doubt the ability of El Al to survive the crisis in any case.
