According to News USA, the Swedish government has apologized for failing to provide better protection for its elderly citizens.

Its statement reads: "We have failed to protect our seniors. This is really serious and a failure for society as a whole."

Sweden has pursued a controversial strategy to combat the coronavirus, refusing to lockdown the country and keeping most schools, stores, and even restaurants and bars open. People were merely advised to be careful and many complied, but the death rate in Sweden has been far higher than that in other Scandinavian countries.

Reportedly, 90% of the country's Covid-19 fatalities were people over the age of 70.
