(IsraelNN.com) Despite the recommendation made by the current European Union president, Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, that Israel, Turkey and Russia be invited to join the EU, the organization will not be doing so any time soon. EU officials clarified today that the policy of the EU regarding Russia and Israel has not changed.

An EU Commission recently concluded that Russia stood little chance of joining the EU club. A Commission spokesman also said Israel did not fulfill “geographical criteria” for membership. Turkey’s membership bid has been recently placed on hold.
