The RCS Sport company has removed references to ‘West Jerusalem’ from its official maps and route information for the 2018 Giro d’Italia after the Israeli government threatened to withdraw its support for next year’s Grande Partenza in protest at the statement that one of the events would begin in "West Jerusalem."
Original maps of the three events referred simply to Jerusalem but maps released at the official presentation of the first event to take place outside Europe referred to "West Jerusalem."
After a strong complaint by Sports Minister Miri Regev and Tourism Minister Yariv Levin who threatened to pull Israel from the event, the wording was changed and RCS issued a statement that "the use of this term which had no political significance has been removed from all publications dealing with the Giro D'Italia.
