Former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has denied a Wednesday report by the British Broadcasting Corporation's Arabic service, based on secret documents it received, that he agreed in 1983 to settle Palestinians in his country according to a US request.
The documents said Mubarak would agree to the American request only if it came within the framework of an appropriate settlement to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In a statement posted on his supporters' Facebook page, Mubarak said, "I never agreed to give up even a grain of Egyptian soil," adding, "I rejected a similar proposal by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu in 2010 to settle Palestinians in the Sinai Peninsula, and I told him he should not even dare to think of such an idea."
