Former Chief IDF Rabbi Avichai Ronsky told Arutz Sheva that he vehemently opposes the thought of putting Lt.-Col. Shalom Eisner on trial. Eisner has faced career trouble since striking a Danish man who was attempting to block a highway during a violent riot in which Eisner had been hurt.

Aside from Eisner’s history of contribution to the state, Rabbi Ronsky said, there is the fact that any mistake he made “was made during the heat of the moment while fulfilling his mission, the intent was not to hit the anarchist, but to carry out the mission.”

“To bring him to a criminal trial in a military court… That would cause field commanders not to show determination. They will think ‘inside the box’ and will always look at exactly what IDF law says,” he warned.
