A New York court decided Friday that Al Qaeda owes the U.S. $9.3 billion for damage caused during the 9/11 attacks. The decision comes in the form of a recommendation by a Federal court, who submitted the opinion to a local New York court in a lawsuit brought by insurance companies on compensation for the damage to the World Trade Center and other sites in lower Manhattan.

The suit was first brought in 2003. Al Qaeda never responded to the lawsuit.
