Gerhard Conrad, the German negotiator who has been ferrying messages between Hamas and Israel in an attempt to work out a deal for the release of kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Shalit, arrived in Egypt Monday. A report on the website of the Al-Ahram newspaper said that Conrad was set to meet with top Egyptian officials, although the agenda of the meetings was not revealed.

The site quoted Egyptian sources as saying that Conrad was attempting to restart the talks of a deal to release Shalit, and to come up with new approaches to a prospective Israeli release of hundreds of terrorists demanded by Hamas for Shalit's freedom.
