The Jewish and Palestinian peoples should live in separate states, for their own benefits, USA Today quoted Palestine Liberation Organization ambassador to the United States Maen Areikat as saying on Tuesday.
"It would be in the best interest of the two peoples to be separated," he said, referring to the potential establishment of a Palestinian Authority state in Israel's Samaria and Judea regions.
According to USA Today, Arekait's comments were made at a meeting with reporters in Washington, in light of the approaching PA bid for a United Nations vote on statehood at the upcoming UN General Assembly meeting in September.
Elliott Abrams, a former U.S. National Security Council official reportedly responded to the notion of such a state as "a despicable form of antisemitism," adding that, "no civilized country would act this way."
